The idea took shape while Calder was serving as executor of his father’s estate. What began as an ordinary responsibility led him to think differently about inheritance—not simply as money or property, but as values, relationships, obligations, and the consequences of choices made long before we arrive.

Those questions became The Executor’s Silence, the first Elias Ward novel.

Calder’s fiction blends atmospheric suspense with family drama and systemic intrigue, but beneath the mystery is a recurring question: What do we owe what we inherit—and what are we responsible for doing with it?
